Rev. David Smith, Senior Associate Pastor
Birthday: August 31
Originally from: Memphis, Tennessee
Education background: I am a graduate of Union University (Jackson, TN) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Fort Worth, TX) and am currently pursuing additional post graduate education.
Ministry background: I love the Body of Christ called the Church. From my early days in ministry as a Children’s and Student Pastor to my most recent ministry days as Pastor and Associate Pastor, serving Christ through the church has always been my heart’s focus.
At RBBC: I began serving at RBBC on September 9, 2012.
My Family: Gina and I have been married for nearly 25 years. We met on a blind date in college and have enjoyed a full, rich relationship as we have served our Lord together. Our daughter and first born, Anna, graduated from Taylor University works as a professional fitness trainer. Our son, Will, is a Senior at Liberty University in Virginia.
My role at RBBC: I serve in the Office as the Pastor as an extension of Pastor Sam. My specific role is to strategically lead our staff in the implementation of the vision God gives to the Pastor and to faithfully manage the resources God gives to our church. My prayer is that these responsibilities will be carried out with a spirit of unity and a passion for excellence.
Personal Story: I am blessed to have godly parents who love Jesus and live Jesus. Through their witness and the ministry of my home church, I came to know Christ personally as a child. My teen years became the years of spiritual growth and discipleship that led me to hear the call of God on my life for ministry. Gina and I were married in 1988 and have joyfully served Jesus with one heart. Anna and Will have grown into followers of Christ and their personal walk with Him challenges this dad to be authentic and draw near to God daily (even moment by moment). Ministry has afforded joys and sorrows, highs and lows, fulfillment and frustration, but through the years, my life verse has even become more poignant and relevant. Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to Him, who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
Favorite book of the Bible: Joshua and Ephesians
Books that have impacted my walk with Jesus: The Secret of Waiting on God, Andrew Murray; The Making of a Man of God, Alan Redpath; The Wrong Man Out and The Right Man In, Major Ian Thomas; What Every Christian Ought to Know, Adrian Rogers
Most fulfilling part of pastoring: I am fulfilled when God's Word is taught, when lost people are saved, when saved people are growing and when the church is strengthened and unified.
Spiritual gifts: Teaching, leadership and administration.
How can you pray for me? Please pray that I will have the “wisdom from above” (James 3:17) and discernment in serving and leading the Body of Christ at RBBC.
